Abstract

This granted U.S. Patent describes a system and method designed to locate individuals using Ultra High-Frequency (UHF) RFID tags. The invention aims to overcome limitations of existing tracking technologies by employing RFID readers and antennas to identify and track tagged individuals or objects. The system processes search requests, generates location data and alarms, gathers crowd data, and analyzes signal directional strength to determine movement patterns.

The Problem We Solve

Traditional tracking technologies often fall short, especially within complex indoor environments like shopping malls, airports, or large venues. GPS is unreliable indoors, and other solutions can be imprecise or difficult to scale. There is a need for a reliable and efficient system to locate individuals (e.g., lost children) or track assets in real-time within these challenging spaces.

Our Innovative Solution

Our patented technology leverages a network of strategically placed UHF RFID readers and antennas. The core components of our system include:

  • RFID Tagging: Individuals or objects are equipped with passive UHF RFID tags, which are small, battery-free, and cost-effective.
  • Reader Network: A series of readers and antennas are deployed throughout an environment (e.g., a shopping mall) to create a comprehensive coverage area.
  • Centralized Processing Unit: This unit processes incoming search requests, analyzes data from the readers, and triangulates the location of the target tag.
  • Directional Analysis: The system analyzes signal strength and directionality to not only locate but also determine the movement patterns and trajectory of an individual.
  • Alarm & Notification System: Upon successful location, the system can trigger alarms or send notifications to security personnel or designated recipients with precise location data.

Applications & Impact

This technology has significant applications in public safety, asset management, and data analytics.

Enhanced Safety in Public Spaces: Quickly locate lost children or vulnerable individuals in crowded environments like shopping malls.

Crowd & Traffic Flow Analysis: Anonymously gather data on crowd density and movement patterns to optimize store layouts, manage foot traffic, and improve operational efficiency.

Asset Tracking: Monitor the location of high-value assets within a large facility, reducing loss and improving inventory management.

We are exploring the integration of this powerful system into our custom solution offerings for large-scale facilities management and public safety.
